			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Now that the marathon is finished I&#8217;ve been feeling a little down in the training department. I have only been running twice since the middle of June and am now starting to feel the effects on my body.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s time to change gears and fast, but whats next?</p>
<p>Being the goals oriented person that I am I need to set a new goal, have a deadline, I need that constant push. Often after any of life &#8216;s big events there is a let down period, when you are left wondering what now? Because every minute of my free time is not called for what to I do?</p>
<p>I know when training it is easy to get lost without a set goal you head to the gym not really knowing what you want to work on. Then as time marches on you head to the gym less and less. I have always wanted to be the kind of person that really wants to workout all the time, go hard and push my limits just because I can. I&#8217;m not one of those people I struggle to workout consistently but keep going because of how it makes me feel. It gives me energy makes me strong and clears my mind. Despite all those great reasons to keep going I still need a definite goal a finish line of sorts, a way to measure  the progress and a reason to push past my limits.</p>
<p>I have now decided that marathon training is starting up again. I have put some thought into this and realized that I love the challenge that a marathon presents. I want to push myself more and more, to build the mental stamina required to breeze through 26.3 miles.</p>
<p>Now the only question is where will this next one be? any thoughts? I would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions for an upcoming even</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Having just finished my marathon I credit good pace setting for my smooth finish and speedy recovery. This time around I really focused on setting a sustainable pace really holding myself back at the start. Mentally this is not an easy task, as you line up with thousands on people you head closer to the back of the crowd. You continually convince your self that its ok for people to pass you, it&#8217;s not just a couple people either it&#8217;s a lot.</p>
<p>For the first 6 miles your constantly telling yourself keep it slow don&#8217;t go all out. It so easy to get swept away in the momentum of the race but by mile 15 that momentum is gone and your running with just a couple of other runners and starting to feel defeated.</p>
<p>Because of a slow start by mile 20 I was still felling good I was passing people left and right. There were runners walking and sitting on the side of the trail. at this point your spirits are high and even though your body is getting tired to push on knowing that the end is near and you have no dout that you&#8217;ll make it.</p>

<p>After months of training, countless miles, worn out runners and a few aches and pains you cross that finish line and it all seems worth it.</p>
<p>Race day was overcast with a light drizzle it was perfect weather for a run. The day had come, the one you think about every time you head out for a training run.</p>
<p>The anticipation had been building all week. When race day came what would the weather be like, had you trained enough, what were you going to eat, is it going to be enough, maybe it will be to much, what if I cant sleep. The variables are endless and no one can ever know if that morning your going to wake up and be on top of your game.</p>

<p>I think the biggest fear when running a marathon is what if I can&#8217;t finish? when being faced with the challenge can you step up and embrace it? Can you trust in yourself that you have what it takes?</p>

<p>During training I will tell myself again and again that I will not run another marathon that I don&#8217;t really love it and that I would rather just run for fun. But when it&#8217;s all said and done when the finish line has been crossed it turns out that this to was just for fun. When you cross that finish line the feeling is overwhelming. It&#8217;s makes you feel strong to think that your body can take you all that way. That your mind has the power to push past barriers that were once thought to be unmovable.</p>
<p>For anyone that has wanted to do a marathon, a half marathon or even a 5k run I would encourage you to go for it, commit to it and dare to challenge yourself.</p>

<p>The mayors Marathon was unbelievably beautiful the course was well thought out a nice mix of trails and paths. I can&#8217;t thank the people enough that encouraged me ever step of the way, you are all my inspiration!!</p>

<p>Last week I strained my hip flexor and once they flare up it&#8217;s hard to kick it. I have been stretching and stretching working on form and praying that it will loosen up in the next week.</p>

<p>Today we finally booked our flights and hotel for the trip, talk about leaving it to the last minute. It seems that&#8217;s not the only thing I have left to the last minute. Training has also gone by the wayside since I was sick a couple weeks ago.</p>
<p>This horrible cold is convinced that it&#8217;s found it&#8217;s home in my chest, I can&#8217;t breath and it&#8217;s making me crazy!!! Training is still pretty slow and I&#8217;m running out of time. My long runs are done and now I just have to trust that I have what it takes to make it through the finish line.</p>
<p>Stay posted for the Training countdown that long trip to AK in a camper and of course the marathon.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What a long week with no posts! The marathon is coming up fast, the countdown in on&#8230;17 more days. The training&#8230;. well it came to a complete halt after my long run last Monday. I unfortunately caught that terrible chest cold and have been hacking up a lung all week.</p>
<p>When illness strikes so close to the big event what do you do. I missed my last long run and have started tapering my distance down. on Saturday was my 32km, I needed that run. I needed to finish strong to get the confidince up for the big day. I needed mentally to know that I had a strong 32km training run.</p>
<p>Now I have a 25km and a few shorter runs in the next couple weeks. To keep the strength and endurance increasing I have been doing Yoga and lots or low cardio cross training.  The hardest part is not getting worked up about the slowdown. Life happens and having a positive upbeat outlook on the race is crucial!</p>
